[01-05 Sept 10] Carlos was recently invited to talk to students at the National Laser Centre in Pretoria, South Africa through the OSA Traveling Lecturer program. He talked about his laser beam shaping work involving phase-only spatial light modulators and also about microfluidic devices to produce sub-femtoliter water droplets. These droplets can be used in optical trapping experiments to study the dynamics of biochemical reactions with single molecules of reagent. As part of the activities of the 8th International Network of OSA Students, Carlos gave an introductory, two-hour lecture on Laser Beam Shaping. The event, held in Moscow, was fully organized by a committee of students from the host institution, Moscow State University and collaborators from several different countries.
